WIRE & WHIM:
the sound of young montreal
1981-1986
waste island records
WIR is an independent record label that began life in the 1980s releasing cassettes and vinyl for suburban Montreal bands such as the late, lamented alt-power pop/softcore favourites This "Blue Piano" and alternative rock artists A Different Brand of Noise.
Current Waste Island projects include:
Remastering and releasing the long-awaited "best of" album by This "Blue Piano." The album is currently being remastered under the working title Only The Good Live On. In typically lazy-assed fashion, the deadline for the deluxe reissue, originally slated for the 30th anniversary of the band's breakup in 1986, went whooshing by in a glorious rush. We're now aiming for the 35th anniversary. But don't hold your breath. Only the Good things come to those who wait.
Licensing tracks from the WIR catalogue for films/TV, games & advertising. Contact us for further details.
Releasing the long-awaited debut album by A Different Brand of Noise. The 10-track album entitled Blurry (featuring lead single Stir in the Air) will be available on Canada Day 2025.
